POWER4 QUESTIONS UK BUSINESSES ON POWER BACK-UP PLANS
Power4, a specialist provider of power and lighting equipment, is helping UK companies to examine the effects on their business of a total mains power failure. The company has developed a simple 10 question health check to allow businesses to evaluate their contingency plans in the event of a sudden loss of mains power.
Comments David Sanderson, Head of Power4’s Business Continuity Unit: “Whilst some UK companies have permanent stand-by generators in place, in our experience, many of them have not been tested since they were installed. This can lead to several problems such as the back-up solution not having the required capacity to meet demand or the generator failing to fire up all together.”
The health check looks at all aspects of an effective back-up power solution ranging from when the generator was last serviced to ensuring that the back-up solution is future proof – making sure there is enough capacity to meet any planned expansion of a company’s facilities.
Power4 has a long track record in helping businesses across the UK prepare for a mains power failure. Only last year the company launched an innovative four hour emergency response service, where organisations are guaranteed that a back-up power solution is up and running within a maximum time limit of four hours. So far, over 30 organisations including Sunderland FC have signed up to the service.
The service is known as ‘Power 4 Continuity’ and involves a Power4 consultant carrying out an initial assessment of an organisation’s power needs. This includes looking at the amount of power required, risk assessment, best place to position the hook-up point(s) and generator(s), and cabling requirements. Once the relevant preparation work has been carried out, a generator simply hooks up and activates the back-up power solution.
Concludes David Sanderson: “A back-up power solution is often the missing piece of the jigsaw and this health check has been launched to ensure back-up power is at the centre of any business continuity plan. After all, no power, equals no continuity!”
